Luther Craig Bush, Jr., (Major USAF Ret), age 76, of Silk Hope Road, Siler Citypassed away Sunday, July 14, 2013 at UNC Hospitals. was a career military officer in the United States Air Force where he served in Texas, Florida, Alaska, Delaware, Mississippi, Alabama, Hawaii and New Jersey stateside as well as Taiwan and Vietnam as a radar observer in fighter jets and later as a navigator in cargo planes. Phillips was born in Randolph County on February 28, 1927, the daughter of Millard and Lula (Hicks) Maness. and James Allen Maness; sisters, Eula Darr and Lessie Mote. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Ina Brown; wives, Lois D. Brown; sisters, Hilda Brewer, Myrtle Teague; and brothers, Clint, Howard, Lynn, Colon and Buster. Wachs and husband Bob; two grandchildren, Suzanne W. Wachs and wife Amanda of Bear Creek; great grandchildren, Jackson and Elizabeth; brother Norman Brown and wife Mary Lea. The family received friends on Friday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. He was the son of the late Benjamin Troy and Orpha Laura Faulkner Walters and was also preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Lee Walters, two sisters and three brothers.
He served our country in the United States Army and worked as a tobacco farmer. He had worked in construction, welding, log cutting, insurance, farming, sales and had been owner, operator of Randy’s Grill in Siler City. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a step-brother, Claudiaus Wrenn Brewer. He was a member of Glendon Independent Christian Church where he served as a deacon.

She worked in textiles and later retired after serving many years as a nursing assistant. The funeral will be held at Loves Creek Baptist Church, Thursday, July 18, 2013 at 2 p.m with Rev. The family will receive friends at the church from p.m., prior to the service. She was born May 24, 1922 in Elizabethtown, NC, the daughter of Elizabethtown City Attorney and Bladen County State Senator E. Mc Culloch and Jessie Lee Sugg Mc Culloch, former Publisher and Editor of the Bladen Journal.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 11 a.m. Surviving are his daughters, Connie Ferguson (Melvin), Jackie Brown (Sam) of Siler City; son, Jerry Walters (Annette) of Siler City; four grandchildren, James Mize (Shannon), Doug Mize (Christina), Katina Ferguson (Chris), Joseph Walters and ten great-grandchildren. He was a faithful servant to God and was a long time member of Gospel Baptist Churchin Archdale, N. His church family was his extended family, whom he loved very much.
